SANNICANDRO GARGANICO:
CAVE OF "PIANA DELLA MACINA"
The journey around Sannicandro Garganico restarts at the Cave of "Piana della Macina" (the Mill Plain).
I wanted to first of all apologize to the Speleological Group of Gargano, who accompanied the visitors of Dauniatur, as I've not mentioned them in the previous post , but it was fundamental to the success of the "expedition".
About the Cave of Piana della Macina one can say that it's certainly one of the most spectacular of the Gargano.
It is not accessible to all; at its entry in fact there is a fence to prevent dangers to incautious visitors and to protect this microcosm of ineffable beauty.
The expert speleologists of the group have preceded at the entrance for putting into safety and the placement of some points of light.
A few steps and then ... you start your journey through a narrow passage between the concretions and some slopes to overcome.
Moving is hard, it's dark and walking is made using a torch, but it's worth it to see stalactites and stalagmites, sometimes gathered into columns, draperies, drops hanging from the ceiling with their transparency ...
In some points the concretions appear elephant tusks ... On the ground a lot of mud.
The narrow passage leads to a precipice of about 15 meters and here you should just stop to gaze down, but the braves decided to get down.
It's especially a passionate group of photographers who never want to lose that opportunity to photograph the unspeakable wonders that they see ... and when ever it will happen again?
The experienced speleologists sling us and make us go down one by one, in the time to allow us the personal accompanying along the cliffs.
I stop near the bottom, but now I'm left alone at the moment and I can not move to avoid slipping.
Further down on the side, there is a further step, we will not see, but it seems to bring in another "jewel" of treasures, with very unusual stalactites and calcite crystals.
Stop there, not far from other people, I take continuously photos, waiting for someone take me again for the ascent. Turn off also the light generator and we remain in the dark for a while.
Finally they come and we go on!
All I know is that at the exit I find myself totally muddy (even the camera, which in scaled-down I had protected in the jacket!)
And that this one was one of the most beautiful and crazy adventures of my life.
